T Musgrave this sum of two hundred and fifty dollars in consideration of which sum I have sold and do hereby sell transfer and confirm to the said Musgrave all my right, title and interest as well as that which I now have, as that to which I may have at any future time be entitled to, in and to the dower negroes belonging to the estate of my father Henry Barrow and in the possession of Capt Newit Harris as the dower interest of my mother Elizabeth Harris in my father's estate. Too wit Nancy, Edey, Fanny, Lithey, William, Ellick and Peggy with their increases forever. and I hereby warrant and defend the right in my whole distribitive[sic] share of said og said Negroes and their increase to the said Musgrave and his heirs forever. This bill of sale was acknowledged by Henry Barrow party thereto and admitted to record. And add a court held for the County aforesaid the 21st day of March 1836 the said bill of sale was entered upon the proceedings of the day. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ [In the left margin] Mahone wife to Barrow This Indenture made and entered into the 12th date of January, in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and thirty six between F J Mahone & Martha his wife of the one part and Lafayette Brown of the other part: Wittnesseth that is said F J Mahone for the sum of two hundred fifty Dollars current money of the state of Va. To him in hand paid paid by the said Lafayette Brown at or before the ensealing and delivery to these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have granted bargaind and sold and and by these presents doth grant bargain and Sell alien ensseoff and confirm unto him the said Lafayette Brown his hiers iand assigns lot or parcels of land situate lying and being in the Town of Monroe in the County of Southampton and State of Va. known in the plan of the said Town by number thirteen containing by estimation two Acres be it the same more or less and bounded as follows, to wit, on the South by Washington Street thence along by the West end of a brick house (on Lot no 14) to a line of Populars standing on the north side of this brick house, thence along in a line by said populars down the hill to Parker Williams' lot thence along said line of Ss. Williams to a corner of Zebulon Washington & Thomas Newsom thence a West course to Rochelle's Alley thence along said Alley to the beginning. Together with all right title interest claim or demand of in and to the side lot or parcel of land and premises with its appurtenances thereto belonging or any wise appertaining to have and to hold the above described lot or parcels of land and with all and singular its appurtenances thereto belonging unto him the said Lafayette Brown and his heirs and the said F J Mahone for himself his heirs Exors. admrs. and assigns doth by these presents covenant and agree to and with the said Lafayette Brown his heirs admrs. and assigns, that he will forever hereafter by these presents warrant and defend the rights and title of the aforesaid lot or parcels of land and premises with its appurtenances against the claim or demands of all and every person or persons whatsoever.
